Author. Real name Nevil Chute Norway. Born in Ealing, England, he worked as an aeronautical engineer and manager of an airplane factory while writing adventure novels in his spare time. In 1948 he moved to Melbourne, Australia, and devoted himself to writing. Chute's most famous books are "A Town Like Alice" (1950) and "On the Beach" (1957). The latter shows Australians waiting for death by radiation poisoning after a nuclear war has depopulated the rest of the world. It was filmed in 1959 by director Stanley Kramer.
