Newton J. Boyer, 74, of Chillicothe Street, died Tuesday evening at Holzer Medical Center in Gallipolis after a brief illness. Born in McArthur, he was the son of the late Jasper Joshaway Boyer and Nancy Cox Boyer. Mr. Boyer was a retired employee of Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. He was a WW II Army veteran, and a member of the American Legion Post 371 and Wellston VFW post.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years Daisy Farmer Boyer, a daughter, Bonnie Howell of Hamden; four sons, Dewy Canada and Ronnie Boyer, both of Wellston, Hughie Farmer of Hamden, and Lonnie Boyer of Nelsonville; seven grandsons, six grandaughters, two great-grandsons and a great-grandaughter; a brother, him of Dundas; four sisters, Della Molihan and Mary mcManis, both of Dundas, Clarice Spurlock of Prattsville, and Gurtie McManis of Sunbury. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at J.P.Rogers Funeral Home in Wellston, with the Rev. B. Maloy officiating. Burial will be in Hamden Cemetery, where military graveside services will be conducted. Friends may call Thursday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
