Mrs. Wood was born in Greenville, SC and was the daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin Fortner and Etta Bailey Fortner.
She was a proud graduate of Thornwell Orphanage High School and Presbyterian College in Clinton, SC and never stopped loving both. In addition, she was a lifelong sports enthusiast and a 50-year fan of Furman tennis, football and basketball.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church and its Women's Fidelity Sunday School in Greenville, SC for over half a century.
Surviving are her son, Jerry Wood of Sautee Nacoochee, GA; a daughter, Julie Harbin of Murrells Inlet, SC; a sister, Rubye Munn of Rock Hill, SC; nephews, Grady Culbertson of Darlington, SC, Tab Culbertson of Rock Hill, SC and Michael Munn of Ladson, SC; and a niece, Peggy Grobusky of Rock Hill, SC.
Mrs. Wood was predeceased by her parents, her son, Burrell Wood, III and her sister, Lyl Culbertson.
Graveside services will be conducted Saturday, December 22nd at 11 a.m. in the Rosemont Cemetery in Clinton, SC. Condolences may be sent to the family at Gray Funeral Home of Clinton Published in The Greenville News on December 20, 2012
