KEEDYSVILLE — Pauline Ganell (Giffin) Norris, 91, died Tuesday evening, Feb. 8, 2011, at Fahrney-Keedy Memorial Home, where she had resided for 15 months.

Born in Sharpsburg on Oct. 28, 1919, Pauline was the oldest of six daughters born to Lewis G. and Maude G. (Benner) Giffin.

Her husband of 45 years, Arthur Glenwood (Glen) Norris, preceded her in death in January 1982.

Pauline was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Keedysville. She also had been a member of the Lutheran Church Women at Salem Church, Bakersville.

She had worked as a cafeteria aide at Boonsboro Elementary School for several years in the 1970s. She also provided child care in her home for a number of years.

She was a wonderful cook and pie baker. For most of her life, she canned and froze hundreds of quarts of vegetables, fruits, meats and jellies and preserves each year.

Pauline is survived by her daughters, Constance Shifflett of Golden Living Center in Hagerstown, and Glenda Norris of Keedysville; her two youngest sisters, Armatha Durboraw of Williamsport and Elaine Swope of Tilghmanton; four grandchildren, Edward Swiger and wife, Pam, Laura Marshall, Sandra Jacobs and Michael Swiger; eight great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Patricia Ann Norris, and three sisters, Hilda Breeden, Dorothy Durboraw and Ruth Stull.

The family will receive friends at the Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, Md., on Friday, Feb. 11, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral home will be open after 9 a.m. on Friday for the convenience of family and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011, at 2 p.m. at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Keedysville, with Pastor Eric Moser officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Keedysville.
