A memorial service for Jim Evans, age 89, of Sulphur Springs will be conducted at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel at 5:00 p.m., Saturday, January 12, 2013, with C. J. Duffey officiating. No formal visitation is scheduled. Jim Evans passed away at his residence Tuesday morning, January 8, 2013. He was born in Georgia on November 26, 1923, the son of Holman C. Evans and Annie Mae (Roberts) Evans. He married Mariah Parsons in Athens, Georgia on June 8, 1946. She preceded him in death. He was the first chief of the Law Enforcement Division of the United States Forest Service. He served in the United States Army/Air Force during World War II in Germany. He served as tank commander during the Korean Conflict and was a Lieutenant Colonel in the Air Force Reserves. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, V.F.W. and Amigos ( a Forest Service organization) and he was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include: three daughters, Bobbie Miller and Ken of Sulphur Springs, Jan Philpot of Hiram, Georgia and Karen DeLise and Steve of Glen Mills, Pennsylvania; son, Duane Evans and Karen of Falls Church, Virginia; grandchildren, Laura Moore, Kristi DiVirgilis, Tom Miller, Jacqueline Evans, Jim Evans, Claire DeLise, Rachel DeLise and Bryan DeLise; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Nichole, Jessica, Michelle, Sarah, Amanda, Elida and Zia; sister, Geneva Brock of Decatur, Georgia; brother, Alec Evans of Wrightsville, Georgia and special long term care givers, Valea Wilson and Shanta and Raymond Brock. He was also preceded in death by brother, Bobby Ray Evans. Memorials may be made to Meal A Day, 150 Martin Luther King Blvd., Sulphur Springs, TX 75482
