He was born July 6, 1940 in Gas City to James E. and Dorothy SMITH MURPHY Sr. He had lived in Akron for 35 years after having lived in the Roann and Wabash areas. He was a hydraulic engineer for Gen Corp., Wabash, for 23 years in addition to his farming. He was a member of United Rubber Workers Local 626 at Wabash and the Wabash Moose Lodge.
Surviving with his parents, of Akron, are four children and a grandson, all of Rochester; a
sister, Mrs. Max (Alice) HELVEY, Concorde, N.C.; two brothers, Billie "Buck" MURPHY, Akron, and James E. MURPHY Jr., Malden, N.C., and nieces and nephews. A brother, Benjamin [MURPHY], died in 1972.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Foster & Good Funeral Home, Akron, with the Rev. Randy SAMUELS officiating. Burial will be in the Akron Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and from after 9 a.m. Saturday.
