Ninety Six - Katherine McNeill Gardner, 93, resident of Jasmine Cottage at Wesley Commons, wife of William Abel Gardner of Ninety Six, SC, died Monday, July 16, 2012 at Hospice House.

Born on March 21, 1919 in Greenwood, SC, she was the daughter of the late Julius Grady McNeill and Cora Boyce McNeill. She was a 1940 graduate of Columbia College and was a teacher and librarian in Greenwood and Ninety Six schools.

Kitty was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, Ninety Six, SC, for many years, serving in various roles in the United Methodist Women and the church. She also served on the Greenwood County Library Board. She was a generous and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

Surviving in addition to her husband of 68 years are two daughters, Kit Gardner Adkins and her husband, Terry, of Greenwood, SC, and Suzy Gardner Farrar of Ninety Six, SC; two grandchildren, Tom Adkins of Columbia, SC. and Willa Kate Farrar of Ninety Six, SC; and nieces and nephews, Anna McNeill Welborn, Marilyn McNeill Hardister and Tommy McNeill, all of Greenwood, SC, and Andrew McNeill of North Carolina.

She was preceded in death by her three brothers, James Sidney McNeill, Thomas Harold McNeill and Andrew Boyce McNeill and her son-in-law, Jerry Farrar.

The family will receive friends in the parlor of St. Paul United Methodist Church on Wednesday from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m.
Services will follow at 3 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul United Methodist Church with the Rev. Philip E. Chandler and the Rev. Gwin Hanahan officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Stoudemire, Butch Attaway, Richard Shealy, Paul Johnson, Paul Walker and David Henderson.
Honorary escort will be Ray Berry and Temp Lamar.

The family wishes to express their grateful appreciation to the staff of Jasmine Cottage for their loving care to Miss Kitty during the past four years.

The family is at the home, 102 Holloway Court, Ninety Six.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church, PO Box 66, Ninety Six, SC 29666 or to the charity of one's choice.
