Lucy Letcher was born to Godfrey and Addie Letcher of rural Pine Island. In 1903 she married Hiram McGowan and the couple once farmed with Hiram's brother William and Lucy's sister Laura on a farm in Old Concord, Dodge County. They also farmed in Berne where fire destroyed their farm home and their belongings. After retiring in 1946 they lived in Pine Island for 11 years and also with their daugther Hilda in Rochester for a few years.
Hiram died in 1953 and afterwards Lucy lived with her daughter, Donna until she broke her hip and spent her last days at Fairview Rest Home in Dodge Center. Her daugther, Blanche worked there so she was able to care for her mother while on duty.
Survivors are Blanche(Fred) Musolf, Hilda(Stanley) Decker, Leo McGowan, Grace (John) Wiederholt, Gertrude (Donald) Nickel, Donna (Russell) Kindseth, Dave McGowan. Lucy is buried in the Pine Island Cemetery.
