Born May 14, 1878 in Long Point Township, Barton was the son of Thomas K. and Sarah (Smith) Barton. His parents moved to a farm near Nigh Chapel when Roy was four years old and he continued to reside there until 1941 when he moved to the present family home at the northeast edge of Cornell. He was married to the former Priscilla Gingrich at Cornell December 31, 1902.
Roy was a member of the Cornell Baptist Church and a member of the village board and served in various capacities in the Amity Township Board.
