John Hermann Loud studied in Paris, and was the last living pupil of Alexandre Guilmant of La Trinite, generally considered the greatest of French organists, and Cesar Franck of Ste. Clothilde, one of the greatest of French composers.

For almost his entire working life, he was organist of the Park Street Church in Boston, and was one of the city's best recitalists. [His wife, Myrta, was also a church organist.]
