Felicia Gullo was born in Bronte, Provincia di Catania, Sicily.
Bronte is a small town, up the mountain from the large coastal city of Catania in Eastern Sicily. Near the volcano, Mt Etna.

Felicia was born prior to the unification of Sicily and Italy in 1861. When she was born Sicily was part of the "Kingdom of the Two Sicilis" (Regno delle due Sicili). And under the rule of King Ferdinando Carlo II di Borbone. The Royal Throne was located in Napoli.

In 1860 Felicia would witness the invasion of Sicily by Giuseppe Garibaldi and his Northern Italian "liberators". There were violent riots in Bronte during that time. It was a very historic time for the people of Sicily. The Bourbon rulers were kicked out of Sicily and the Northern Italians and their king would take over.

Things would go from bad to worse for Sicily as the Northern Italian rulers despised the Sicilian people and treated them very poorly.

I have listed Felicia with her married name of Destro in case anybody might be looking for her by that name. However, in her era Italian wives would keep their maiden name and on her grave it says : "Felicia Gullo".

Her Parents:

*Gasparo Gullo, of Bronte
*Maria Franco, of Bronte

Felicia's siblings: (the one I know of)

*Serafino Gullo (1855-1910)

Felicia married Antonino Nunzio Destro who was also from Bronte.

Their children:

*Giuseppe (Michael)
*Vincenzo (Vincent)
*Luigi (Louis)
*Alfio (Alfred)
*Maria (Mary)
*Grazia (Grace)

Felicia was a very much loved member of her large extended family. She would live to a ripe old age (90s) at a time in Sicily when most did not. She was known for being a very kind and generous woman.
And her flaming red hair.

Felicia was buried in Bronte's cemetery in a nice crypt and her family made sure to pay the extra fee so she would never be removed. Kinda rare for Sicily and her grave is a permanent one.
