Born in Huntsville, AL, Sara was a daughter of the late Pete and Vivian Parton Sitz. She grew up in Birmingham, AL.
In 1951, Sara met the love of her life, John. They were engaged in 1953 and married the following year on June 5, 1954. She attended the University of Alabama but moved to Aiken following John's graduation before she could complete her degree. She and John celebrated 37 years of marriage before John was called Home in 1992.
