Dennis C. Smestad, 83, longtime resident of Manchester, died Sept. 17, 2012, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Swanville, Minn., Dec. 28, 1928, the son of Oliver and Serena (Sather) Smestad. He was educated in the Swanville school system and earned his degree in applied sciences from the University of New Hampshire.

He served in the U.S. Air Force prior to his honorable discharge in 1949.

Dennis had been employed by IBM for over 28 years before his retirement in 1985.

He enjoyed playing bridge, traveling and being with his many friends. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather who cherished the time spent with family.

He was predeceased by his wife of nearly 60 years, Irene M. (King) Smestad, in 2011, and his sister, Juanita Johnson, earlier this year.

Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, 484 Donald St., Bedford.
