"Dell was born May 5, 1924 in Lampasas the daughter of Rucker Lee Northington and Elizabeth (Bailey) Northington. She graduated from Lampasas High School and attended Texas University and Southwestern, As a young lady, Dell played the piano at her church. She played the piano by ear and she also played the organ. Dell played them beautifully. Dell gave music lessons and worked in the Lampasas schools. She also taught kindergarten, as a music teacher, in College Station. She married James "Jim" Berry June 2, 1945 and he was the love of her life. She met him after he returned from serving in World War II. They were married 63 years. Dell was a devout Methodist and an active member in her church. She was a member of the Wesley Sunday School Class. She enjoyed her grand and great-grandchildren.
"Funeral services for Dell N. Berry will be held on Wednesday January 9, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Sneed Funeral Chapel in Lampasas, Texas. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
"Survivors include; 2 daughters: Alice Hemphill and husband Joe Pat of Coleman; Janice Berry Persky of College Station; 2 sisters: Bettye Millican of Lampasas; Sarah Northington Fox of San Antonio; 3 grandchildren: Heath Hemphill, Brent Hemphill and Laura Persky Marsh M.D.; 4 great-grandchildren: Haigen Elizabeth, Joseph Zeno, Hadley Baize, and Ethan James.
"Dell was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, James "Jim" Berry.
"Memorials may be made to 1st United Methodist Church.
"Sneed Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements."
