Don attended public schools on Pittsburgh's North Side. He later served in the Pennsylvania National Guard; he was activated by the US Army and sent to Korea during the war. He married Mary Teresita Moran on 01 September 1953. The couple had 6-children. They were: William Donald, Donna Anne, Janet Anne, James Donald, Edward Donald and Serena Anne. After living in several different places, the family settled in Oakmont, PA. Working as an Assistant Manager in steel fabrication for Edgewater Steel, Donald took early retirement. He died in Forbes Hospice, Pittsburgh, from a cerebrovascular accident (stroke). Don also suffered from Parkinson's disease and diabetes.
