Jack Harding Temples

TEMPLES Jack Harding Temples, age 89, passed away on Saturday, January 5, 2013 in Houston, Tx.

Beloved husband of the late Julia Marie Rhodes.

He was born in Emanuel County, Ga. to the late Dent Roundtree Temples and Gertrude Durden Temples and was predeceased by his seven brothers and four sisters.

Pursuant to graduating valedictorian from Vidalia High School, Jack was employed at the Brice Banking Company prior to his induction into the armed forces and upon having completed his training at Camp Barkley, Texas he was classified as a paymaster. He served his country with honor and earned the rank of Sergeant as a member of the 182nd Gen. Hospital Corps in the Army during WWII.

After WWII he graduated from Loyola University with a degree in accounting.

For several years, he managed the Lafayette Hotel in New Orleans and served on many civic leadership positions including President of the New Orleans Hotel and Motel Association. Jack later managed the Civil Sheriff's office and was deputized as a Chief Deputy by the Civil Sheriff until he retired in 2005 after 30 years of service, and moved to Houston, Texas where he resided until his death.

In addition to being a loving husband, father, and grandfather, Jack was a devout Catholic. He regularly attended daily mass before going to work, kept the financial books for St. Matthias Parish and school, and carried Blessed Seelos' cross to pray with sick and infirmed individuals in hospitals and in their homes. Jack was recognized by Archbishop Philip Hannan for his leadership and dedicated service and conferred upon him the Order of St. Louis.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME, in New Orleans on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 12:00 noon. Visitation will begin at 10:00AM.

Interment will be in All Saints Mausoleum.
