WOODSTOCK, CT - Cynthia Marie (Hebert) Boyd, 59, of Woodstock, passed away Sunday, January 6, 2013 in UMass/Memorial Healthcare, Worcester, after a short illness in the presence of her family.
She leaves her husband of 20 years, Thompson W. Boyd; a daughter, Lee Meredith Boyd; a sister, Colleen Robillard of Narragansett, RI; a brother, Dr. James Hebert of Charlotte, VT; her step mother-in-law, Marilyn (Blair) Boyd of Dudley, MA; nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was born and raised in Waterville, ME, daughter of J. Emile and Alyce (Poirier) Hebert. She graduated from Mount Merici Academy in Waterville in 1971 and then from Assumption College in Worcester with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics in 1975. She later earned her Master of Education Degree from Worcester State College. She lived in Wilton, NH, Webster and Dudley, MA before moving to Woodstock in 1993.
Mrs. Boyd was currently a mathematics teacher as well as the Department Coordinator of the Mathematics Department at Shepherd Hill Regional High School in Dudley, where she taught since 1977. Previously, she taught math at Wilton High School in Wilton, NH. She was a class advisor for many years and was this year's senior class advisor. She once coached the Math Team and also the High School Quiz Show Team. The National Honor Society Chapter at Shepherd Hill received many awards under her leadership. She belonged to the NEA, MTA and DCTA and served on the Board of Directors of the National Honor Society for the Mass. Secondary School Administrators' Association, Inc. At one time she coached the school's ski club.
Cindy was a member and deacon at the First Congregational Church of Dudley and volunteered for many committees. She was a member of the Women's Golf League at Thompson Speedway Golf Course. She enjoyed golfing, skiing and bicycling.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 12, at 1:00 PM in the First Congregational Church of Dudley, 135 Center Road, Dudley. Burial will be held privately. Calling hours will be from 3:00 to 7:00 PM Friday, January 11, in the Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home, 340 School Street, Webster. Instead of flowers, the family prefers that donations in her name be made either to the National Down Syndrome Society, 666 Broadway, 8th Floor, New York, NY 10012 (www.ndss.org) or to the Memorial Gifts Fund, First Congregational Church of Dudley, 135 Center Road, Dudley, MA 01571.
