Born in New York State about 1817 he married his first wife, Emily Eliza Jackson, on August 16, 1840 in Zanesville, Muskingum County, Ohio.
Their daughter, Mary, was born in 1942 in New York State and their son, Thomas, was born in 1943 in Wisconsin.

His second wife was Eliza A. Heiltz (1832-?) and they had at least four children, all born in Wisconsin:
Ida Josephine (1854–1939)
Ellen Roxana (1856–1908)
Sylvester (1860–?) and
Milton (1862–1922).

He was a Veteran of the Civil War, a Union Soldier.
He was in Wisconsin for the 1870 census and died on June 2, 1875 in Brownsville Texas at age 59 years old.
Brownsville City Cemetery records lists him as dying 13 Mar 1880.
