Pearl was born November 07, 1925, at Modesto, California. The fourth child and third daughter of Bessie Ann (Hill) Pitzer and James Paul Pitzer. After the disappearance of her father she lived with her Aunt and Uncle, Elsie and George Hill on the farm owned by her Grandparents, Odus Grant Hill and Flora Ann (Brooks) Hill near Pretty Prairie, Kansas. As a young girl she started working as a waitress in restaurants in Hutchinson, Kansas. Much of her adult life was spent in this occupation. Following World War II Pearl married Edward Harry (Ed) Grant of Hutchinson. They lived at several homes in Hutchinson as Ed was with the Hutchinson Fire Department. Pearl was of her ancestors, a very industries person. She only had an eight grade education, but what she lacked in education she more than made up for it in energy, and determination. She always worked. She took in laundries, did Ironings and baby siting while her son, Larry was little and at home. She was frank and outspoken, you never have to wonder what was on her mind, as she was quick to let you know what she was thinking. She was a very neat housekeeper. Pearl and Ed had two children. Larry Edward Grant, born Nov. 09, 1947, at Hutchinson, Kansas and another child Terry Lee, that died at birth, date OCT 13, 1951. Pearl passed away November 10,1970, after a long fight with cancer. She is buried in Fairlawn Cemetery, on the Southeast edge of Hutchinson, Kansas. (The above written by Viola Baldwin Hill, Pearl's Aunt)
