Army Staff Sgt. Morgan Deshawn Kennon was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Kennon was guarding a bank in downtown Mosul when his position came under rocket-propelled grenade attack. He was fatally wounded during this attack and died immediately of blunt force trauma to the head, while trying to protect fellow soldiers. Morgan, nicknamed ‘Angel', joined the Army in 1998 immediately after high school to earn money for college. He hoped one day to become a lawyer. His specialty in the Army was as a nuclear, biological and chemical specialist. He deployed with his unit to Iraq in February. Angel was a smart, friendly man who loved the Army, God, and doted on his mother.
