Nola Shepherd Gardner passed away peacefully in Riverton, Utah at the home of her son on December 18, 2012.
She was born September 8, 1926 in Paris, Idaho to Edwin and Elvina Shepherd. She lived in Paris until she graduated from high school. She moved to Salt Lake City, Utah and entered the Dr. Will Groves LDS Hospital nursing program under the Cadet Nurse Corps. She graduated in 1947. She worked at the LDS Hospital as an RN. She met Merrill Frei Gardner who was a patient there. Merrill and Nola were married and sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on June 2, 1950. Nola worked as a nurse in hospitals and nursing homes until she retired at age 69 to care for Merrill until his death in 2001. Nola served quietly and diligently for many years in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Preceded in death by husband-Merrill Frei Gardner, son-Aaron Shepherd Gardner, daughter-Saundra Gardner, her brothers Raynold, Dexter, and Lavoy Shepherd, and great-granddaughter Erin Abigail Bart. Survived by sons-Leslie Gardner (Janette), Cliff Gardner (Mary), daughter-Linda Schultz, daughter-in-law-Ginger Gardner, 14 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Foothills Building, 5017 West Grandview Peak Drive, Riverton, Utah on December 22, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. with a viewing prior at 9:45-10:45 a.m. Interment at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park in Salt Lake City, Utah.
