Obituary:
Bay City, Michigan. Mr. Defoe, age 84 years, passed away June 17, 2005, at Bay Special Care Hospital. He was born in Bay City, Michigan, on July 11, 1920, to the late Harry J. and Maude E. (Currey) Defoe. On August 8, 1970, he married the former Mildred Mann (Weidner) and she preceded him in death on May 27, 2005. He attended Bay City Public Schools, Bay City Junior College and the University of Michigan and went on to serve in the United States Navy during World War II. Mr. Defoe was the Chairman of the Board of Defoe Shipbuilding, starting his full time work at the then named Defoe Boat and Motor Works in 1939, following work in many of its departments during school vacations. Active in many areas, Mr. Defoe served as chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank in Detroit and the Michigan Manufacturers Association, as well as President of the Bay Area Chamber of Commerce. He served on the boards of the National Association of Manufacturers, the Shipbuilders Council of America, the Michigan State Chamber of Commerce, the Bay City Country Club, the Saginaw Bay Yacht Club, Vac Art, Inc., Aerospace America and the Wenona Hotel, Inc. He served on the Health and Safety Committee for the U.S. Department of Labor and Blue Ribbon Committees for four Michigan governors. His memberships included Trinity Episcopal Church, the Navy League, the Rotary Club of Bay City and Bay City's oldest continuing potluck group. The family wishes to express deep gratitude for the compassionate support provided by Mr. Defoe's gifted caregivers .....

He was preceded in death by a son, William H. Defoe, a brother, Thomas J. Defoe, a sister, Helen Wray, a grandson, Kurt A. Weidner and a granddaughter, Erica C. Goeckel. Funeral service will be on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church. Rev. Fr. Peter M. Cominos will
officiate. Burial will be in Elm Lawn Cemetery. .....Memorial contributions can be made to Trinity
Episcopal Church.
