Juanita Marie Hopkins


The funeral of Juanita Marie "Nita" Hopkins, 78, a lifelong resident of Emporia, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Victory Fellowship Foursquare Church. The Rev. James Kegin will conduct the service. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Charter Funerals-Emporia Chapel.


The family suggests memorial contributions to the Care Fund for Eva May Robinson at Emporia Presbyterian Manor or the church and sent in care of the funeral home.


Mrs. Hopkins died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2003, at the University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, Kansas.


She was a homemaker.


Juanita Marie Robinson, the daughter of Mack F. and Eva May Rumford Robinson, was born March 9, 1925, in Emporia. She married R.E. "Gene" Hopkins on Oct. 18, 1945, at Emporia. He died May 8, 1991. ("Gene" would have been in Okinawa on 18 Oct 1945, family picture shows 25th Anniv. in October of 1968, which would make married in 1943.)


Mrs. Hopkins, a member of Victory Fellowship Foursquare Church, led Bible study groups at the church. She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Women and the Zenith Study Club, a past president of the Parent Teachers Association and past president of the Emporia Library Board.


She is survived by three sons, Rand Hopkins of Emporia, Edward G. Hopkins of Topeka and Daniel R. Hopkins of Lenexa, a daughter, Shelly Bolling of Bigelow, Ark., her mother, who lives at Presbyterian Manor, two sisters, Mary R. Jaggard of Green Valley, Ariz., and Patricia M. Forrester of Tulsa, Okla., a brother, Mack Robinson of Ahwatukee, Ariz., eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
