Susan A. McAllister, Senior Vice President at Elgin DDB, died Thursday at Providence Hospital of a stroke. She was 52. A prominent member of the Investor relations community in Seattle, she had clients such as Nordstrom, Boeing, British Air, Port of Seattle and QFC. She was a longtime member of the National Investor Relations Institute and a former president of the local chapter.

Born in Chicago, she was reared in Des Moines, Iowa, where she developed an early interest in art. She graduated from St. Joseph Academy in Des Moines and then received her bachelor's degree from the University of Iowa. After moving to Seattle in the late 1960's, she studied art history at the University of Washington and graduated with a master's degree. Subsequently, she taught art history at various local schools, including the Factory of Visual Art and Cornish College and wrote art criticism for the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. She joined the Seattle Art Museum in 1972 as assistant public relations director, moving to Cornish in 1978 as public relations director and special assistant to the president.

In 1980, she left the non-profit world to pursue a Masters of Business Administration at Seattle University and worked as an account executive for Jeri McDonald and Associates. After graduation she became a stockbroker for Merrill Lynch and in 1983 she joined Corporation Communications as a senior account supervisor and later became a vice-president at Corporate Communications/Rockey Company. In 1995, she became director of investor relations at Ostex International and in 1996 joined the advertising agency Elgin DDB.

She is survived by her father and stepmother, H.H. and Todd McAllister of Phoenix; stepbrothers, John Hamm III of Los Angeles and Christopher Hamm of Prague, Oklahoma; stepsister, Debbie Schreiner of Duncan, Oklahoma. A Memorial Service will be offered at 4 p.m., this afternoon, Saturday, February 21, 1998 at BUTTERWORTH MANNING ASHMORE, 300 East Pine Street on Capitol Hill. * Donations may be made to the Maxine Cushing Gray Fund, Seattle Foundation, 425 Pike, Seattle, WA 98101.
