Naoma Magdelene Gesme, 81, 2204 14th Av N., Clear Lake, IA, died Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010 at the I.O.O.F. Home, Mason City, IA. A funeral service will be held 10:30 A.M. Wednesday March 3, 2010, at Zion Lutheran Church, 112 N. 4th St., Clear Lake, with Rev. Dean Hess officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00-7:00p.m. at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel and then one hour before the service on Wednesday at the church. Interment will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City. Family suggests memorials to Hospice of North Iowa, Opportunity Village, Zion Lutheran Church, Waldorf College.

Naoma was born March 30, 1928 in Clear Lake, IA, the daughter of Hans George and Hertha Dorthea Agnes (Koeneman) Jensen. She graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1946 and A.I.B. Business College, Des Moines. Naoma married Roger Bergan in 1947 in Des Moines, IA and to this union seven children were born. They farmed in the Hanlontown and Clear Lake area, moving into town in 1969. . Naoma worked for Dr. W.K. Dankle in the office for 26yrs, retiring in 1992.
Naoma married Joseph Halsne in 1972 in Clear Lake. He passed away in 1974.
Naoma married Henry (Sam) Gesme August 30, 1980 in Clear Lake.
Naoma’s main interest was her family. She was a long time volunteer at the Village Store and was a small group leader at Zion Lutheran Church. She loved the Lord and enjoyed taking the opportunity to share him with others. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.

Naoma is survived by five children: Cheryl Murphy and her husband Steve, Evans, GA, Mike Bergan and his wife Sonni, Clear Lake, IA, Julie Pueggel and her husband Tom, Ventura, IA,. Sandy Barnes and her husband Dave, Waterloo, IA, and Steve Bergan and his wife Janet, Evansdale, IA; son-in-law Mark Mahaffey, Clear Lake, IA; twelve grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, several great- grand and great-great grandchildren; two brothers Jerry Jensen and his wife Phyllis, Clear Lake, IA and DuWayne Jensen and his wife Dorothy, Phoenix, AZ and one sister Adelheide “Laddie” Ruth Watters, Sun City, AZ ; sister-in-laws Idona Schott, Mason City, IA, JoAnn Norem and her husband Morris, Clear Lake, IA, Arlene Keeling, Mason City, IA, Norma Helin, Mason City, IA and Muriel Bergan, Hanlontown, IA and several nieces and nephews.

Naoma was preceded in death by her parents, three husbands and daughters Susan Van Every and Kim Mahaffey and a grandson Shane Nielsen..
