Jacob F. Siegel, Silver Star Recipient - Jacob F. Siegel, 79, 1303 Collins Ave., Mandan, died Sunday night at a Bismarck hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Thomas Sullivan officiating. His six sons will be pallbearers, and burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery with military rites.

Mr. Siegel was born in Karlsruhe, Russia, Aug. 29, 1892, to William and Magdalena (Anton) Siegel. In 1901, the family moved to the United States and settled on a farm northwest of Mandan.

He served in the Army during World War I, and received a silver star and Presidential citation for saving the life of Theodore Roosevelt, Jr. at Meuse-Argonne in September, 1918.

On Dec. 27, 1919, he married Monica Matz at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Bismarck. Mr. Siegel retired from farming and land developing in 1945, when they moved into Manda. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, American Legion, VFW and DAV.

Besides his wife, he leaves 12 children, Walter, Kenneth, and Mars. Mary Ann Wood, all of Mandan; George, Robert and Mrs. Nick (Donna) Vogel, all of Bismarck; William, Laurel, Mont.; Mrs. John (Genevieve) Roncevick, Everett, Wash.; Mrs. Don (Rita) Lucas, Auburn, Wash.; Jacob, Tahoe City, Calif., and Mrs. Tom (Janice) Rudas and Mrs. Richard (Jacqueline) Dorband, both of Chicago, Ill.

He also leaves three sisters, Mrs. Peter Landeis, Mandan, and Mrs. Olga Schantz and Mrs. Clementine Knoll, both of Bismarck.
