Ella Bradt was born 22 January 1895 in Ord, Valley, Nebraska. She was the last of 11 children born to Civil War veteran Aaron V. Bradt and his wife Clara Harlow: Aaron (died as infant), James, Nellie, Pauline, Archie, Hattie, Aidwin (died as infant), Mabel (died as infant), Edward, Dora, and Ella. Her father was 59 when she was born, and he died in 1906 when she was 11 years old.

Ella married Emry Roberson 21 August 1912 in Kearney, Buffalo, Nebraska at the age of 17. Between 1913-1932, they had nine children: Dale, Ellis, LaVaughn, Neal, Marilyn, Reta, Mardell, Marvin and Gary. In September 1947, Emry and Ella's divorce was final. Ella married a widower, William Hardekopf in June 1948 in Wyoming. She and William lived in Nebraska, Wyoming and Colorado, finally coming back to Nebraska. William died in 1956 in Grand Island, Nebraska and Ella had him buried with his first wife, Rena. Ella died in 1977 in Wahoo, Nebraska.

Her daughters LaVaughn and Reta were later buried near her burial site in the Sunrise Cemetery.
