Hannah C. Johnson, 101, of Clayton, California, formerly of Le Mars, Iowa passed away Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at her home.

Services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 12, 2013 at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with Reverend Tim Geitz officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Cemetery, Le Mars, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will be after 11:00 a.m. Saturday until service time. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.carlsenfuneralhome.com.

Hannah Christine Meier was born July 18, 1911 on the family farm in Grant Township, rural Le Mars, Iowa to John and Rieka (Dirks) Meier. Hannah attended country school near her home. Hannah was united in marriage to Carl F. Johnson on May 15, 1929 in New Ulm, Minnesota. For the first three years of their marriage, they worked as a farm-hand couple. In 1931, Hannah and Carl moved to Ireton, Iowa where they established Johnson Trucking and in 1941 they began farming near Ireton. In 1959, Carl and Hannah purchased a farm near Alcester, South Dakota and in February of 1961 moved to the farm. They continued to farm until retiring in March of 1974. During retirement, they continued to live on the farm until Carl passed away in 1991. In 1992, Hannah decided to move to le Mars and the in April of 2000 she moved to Blaine, Minnesota to be near her son, Charles and family. In November of 2006, she moved to an assisted retirement center in Clayton, California to be near her daughter Carla and family.

Hannah had been an active member of Peace Lutheran Church in Alcester, SD where she participated in Circle and helped with Vacation Bible School for 17 years. While living near Alcester, Hannah also volunteered at the Senior Citizen's Center and assisted with Meals on Wheels. While living in Le Mars, Hannah was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church and L.W.M.L. She had also attended Spirit of Christ Lutheran Church in Ham Lake, Minnesota and Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Concord, California.

Hannah is survived by two sons, Charles Johnson and his wife Janice of Blaine, Minnesota and Carlyle Johnson and his wife Jean of Mead, Washington; a daughter, Carla Neer and her husband Mike of Clayton, California; ten grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Rieka (Dirks) Meier; a daughter, Marion Trirey; a granddaughter, Cheryl Johnson; and her 3 brothers and 3 sisters.
