Major Thomas Taliaferro Passes Away At His Home
Funeral of Widely Known Veteran of the Confederate Service Takes Place To-Morrow
Major Thomas Seddon Taliaferro, a distinguished veteran of the War Between the States, and former member of the Virginia State Legislature, died yesterday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jeffrey G. A. Montague, 1609 Hanover Avenue. He was born in Gloucester County in 1832, and was the son of Warner Taliaferro of Bellville, and a brother of General William B. Taliaferro, C.S.A. His home was the well-known estate, The Cottage.
Major Taliaferro was the nephew of Andrew Seddon, Confederate secretary of State during the War Between the States, and was a lawyer by profession. He married Miss Harriet Lee, a cousin of General Robert E. Lee.
The funeral will take place form the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Jeffrey G. A. Montague, with whom he had made his home during the last years of his life, on Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock.
Besides Mrs. Montague, Major Taliaferro is survived by a son, Thomas Seddon Taliaferro, and a daughter, Mrs. Thomas Wyche, of California. The interment will be private.

Major T. S. Taliaferro To Be Buried In Gloucester Today
Funeral services for Major Thomas Seddon Taliaferro, who died Thursday in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jeffry Montague, 1609 Hanover avenue, will be held in the home this afternoon at 3 o'clock. The body will be taken to Ware church, near Gloucester courthouse for burial.
Major Taliaferro, who was eighty-six years old, had been in failing health for a number of years. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs.Jeffry A. Montague, of Richmond, and Mrs. Thomas G. Wynche, of San Francisco, Cal., and one son, T. S. Taliaferro, Jr., of Wyoming. A large number of grandchildren, nephews, and nieces also survive him.
Major Taliaferro, the son of Warner T. and Leah Seddon Taliaferro, of "Belleville," Gloucester county, was in command of a battalion of Gloucester militia during the war between the states. He served with Jackson and Early during the valley campaign. He was a graduate in law of the University of Virginia and served in the Virginia legislature breaking the Republican negro rule in Gloucester county. His home was at "Lowlands Cottage," Ware Neck, Gloucester.
