Retired Air Force Lt. Col. Thomas Awbrey

BRYAN - Retired U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Thomas P. Awbrey, 75, formerly of Abilene, died Tuesday in a College Station hospital.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Central Baptist Church. Burial will be in Restever Memorial Park, directed by Callaway-Jones Funeral Home.

Mr. Awbrey was born in Oklahoma City and joined the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1943. He served in World War II, the Korean conflict and Vietnam. He was stationed at Fort McAndrew Air Force Base in Newfoundland; Tinker AFB, Midwest City, Okla.; Smyrna AFB, Smyrna, Tenn.; and the Pentagon, specializing in airways and air communications service. He retired from Dyess AFB in 1972. He moved to Bryan in 1974 and then worked as a business manager in food services at Texas A&M University until retiring in 1986. He was a member of The Retired Officers Association, Sul Ross Masonic Lodge 1300, Sojourners, and the Workmen Sunday School Class at Central Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Tommy L. Awbrey of Bryan; one son, Thomas Boyd Awbrey of San Diego; four daughters, Rosanne Awbrey and Rene Holt, both of Nashville, Tenn., Alison Thomas of Allen and Laura West of Pasadena; 15 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Memorials may be sent to Central Baptist Church Building Fund or a favorite charity.
