Beverage Funeral Tuesday:
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 26 from the Monterey United Methodist Church for Byron Ames Beverage, 83, of Monterey, who died Sunday, May 24 at Oak Hill Nursing Home in Staunton. Mr. Beverage, a retired farmer, had been ill for some time and was recently moved from Kings Daughters Hospital. The service was conducted by the Rev. Bobby E. Green and the Rev. Thompson B. Southall. Interment was in Monterey Cemetery with Obaugh Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Mr. Beverage was a son of the late William A. and Virginia Trimble Beverage and was born in Highland County Feb. 17, 1887. He was a member of the Monterey United Methodist Church. His wife, Mrs. Ella C. Beverage, died March 5, 1968. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Roscoe M. (Edith) Gutshall of Monterey. Mrs. Kathleen B. Markley and Mrs. Hilda B. Durett. both of Staunton; a sister, Mrs. Bessie Showalter, of Manassas; four grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Byron A. Beverage, game warden for Highland county, resigned to take effect November 1st, other duties taking too much of his time. The department will miss Mr. Beverage’s activities and hope to secure another good warden for that county.
