J.B. Bowen 2106 Sansom Ave died at a local hospital Saturday 9:40 a.m. after a brief illness. Survivors: sons, Coleman E. Bowen and Joe Bowen, Gadsden; daughters, Mrs.E.H. Lambert, Gadsden and Mrs. George A. Dorries, Fort Bragg, N.C.; brothers: Lamar Bowen, Gadsden and Durice D. Bowen, Birmingham; 16 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral will be Monday 3:30 p.m. from Collier Butler Chapel with Dr. George W. Riddle officiating. Burial Rainbow Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Active pallbearers: Robert Bullock, Nathan Harris, Vernon Pruett, Gene Sharpton, James Alexander, Earl Bollew, Glen Smith and Willie Ware. Honorary pallbearers: all personal friends. Mr. Bowen was a native of Marshall County and a resident of Etowah County for 47 years. He was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Marshall County and was retired from Republic Steel Corp. Body will remain at Collier Butler through the hour of service.
