In honor of my 2nd great grandmother, Elva.
When Elva died, she was 36 years old, and had birthed 9 known children. The family had lost a daughter to pneumonia a few years earlier, and Elva was pregnant again when she and her youngest child developed pneumonia. It took Elva and her unborn child first, and young Edward followed shortly after.
After the death of his wife and children, the elder Edward married off and farmed out the older remaining children, and the younger two (Edna and George) we're sent to live in Philadelphia Presbyterian Orphanage. Edward lived a great number of years after that, but did not reconnect with his young children.
