She was a true Southern genteel lady, who always thought of others before herself. She loved to read, sew and garden. She had a truly green thumb and grew beautiful flowers in her yard. She was a retired optician, having worked at several eye centers around the Shoals area. She loved her family, especially her three granddaughters. She was a member of the Church of Christ at Macedonia where she taught Sunday school for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Maymie Balentine Bevis, Florence. She is survived by her sons, Larry (Charlotte) and Greg Hill; granddaughters, Laura Ledgewood (Carter), Whitney Holcombe (Adam), Catherine Hill and Danielle Ferrell (Corey); brothers, Don (Marie) Bevis and James Darrell (Mary) Bevis; sisters, Faye Martin and Shirley (Gerald) Swicegood, all of Florence. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews; and special cousins, Etta and Bobby Balentine.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5 at Greenview Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Sunday,Jan. 6 at 2 p.m. at the Church of Christ at Macedonia with Brother David Dowdy officiating. Friends may call at the church beginning at 1 p.m. Sunday. Burial will follow in the adjoining church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Tim Wright, Bill Ticer Jr. Witt, Sidney Bevis, Mike Brewer and Daniel Durham.
Memorials may be made to the Old Macedonia Cemetery Fund.
