Born May 4, 1923 in Lynchburg, she was a daughter of the late Claude and Maggie M. (Franklin) King. On February 16, 1957, she married James Philip Pangburn with whom she shared 54 years until his death on June 23, 2011. Gloria was a graduate of E. C. Glass High School in Lynchburg.
She spent most of her life as a loving housewife. She was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Lewisburg, PA. Gloria was elected first president of the Lewisburg Council of the Arts when it was organized in May of 1969. As president, she was also instrumental in the establishment of the first Lewisburg Festival of the Arts. In June of 1972 she was elected president of the Lewisburg Civic Club. She also served on the board of the Packwood House Museum.
Surviving are two sons, Donald D. Cross, Jr. of Ocoee, FL and James R. Pangburn of Hanover, PA; a daughter-in-law, Terrie Cross of Ocoee, FL; two sisters, Corrine K. Parker and Evelyn H Ellis both of Lynchburg; and one step-granddaughter, Morgan Vaughan of Jacksonville, FL. In addition to her second husband and parents, she was predeceased by a first husband, Donald D. Cross; and three brothers, Carlton W., Claude Jr. and George T. King.
Family and friends will gather for a committal service at 2:30 p.m on Friday, June 8, 2012. at the St. Paul's Episcopal Church Columbarium, 605 Clay St., Lynchburg, VA. Officiating will be the Rev. Todd Vie.
