2nd Gratiot Crash Victim Is Dead

Darlington- The second victim of a head on collision near Gratiot Friday died at a Darlington hospital Friday afternoon.

He was James Burns, 63, Shullsburg. His death and that of John Doyle, 35, also of Shullsburg, who was killed instantly, were the seventh and eighth traffic fatalities in Lafayette county this year.

The two cars collided on the crest of a hill on Highway 11, about a mile west of Gratiot. Both were alone in their cars.

Mr. Doyle, a veteran of World War II, is survived by his wife; a daughter, Patty, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John R. Doyle, Shullsburg.

Funeral services were tentatively set for Monday morning in St. Matthews Catholic church, with the Rev. John A. McNamara officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
