Mr. Bernard retired in 1947 from the United States Navy after 20 years service. He was a World War II veteran. Following his retirement from the Navy, he went to work for The Virginian-Pilot as a printer and retired in 1972. He was a Roman Catholic.
The Mass of the Resurrection will be held in St. Therese's Catholic Church, 4137 Portsmouth Blvd., Chesapeake, today at 7 p.m. by the Rev. James Kruc. The family will receive friends today in the church from 6 to 7 p.m. Burial will be on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel, is handling arrangements.
