John P. Elias attended Fulton schools
John P. Elias, 88, a resident of 21 Paloma St., Oswego, died Aug. 19, 2002 at Oswego Hospital. Born in New York Mills, he was the son of the late Kahlil and Suzy (Simon) Elias. His early life was spent in Fulton and he attended Fulton schools.
Mr. Elias had been employed with American Woolen Mills, Ames Iron Works and later with Black Clawson. He also worked as an adult education teacher at BOCES for more than 20 years.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the Army Air Corps in the European Theater. Mr. Elias enjoyed softball and played in the Fulton Softball League as a catcher for many years. He was a member of the Fulton Men's Choir and was an avid gardener. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, the former Helen Janice; two daughters, Janice (Michael) Genova of Oswego and Jacquelyn (Mark Vanhusen) Elias of Fayetteville; and four grandchildren, Angelo, Johnatha, Lauren and Madeline. He was predeceased by a sister, Sarah Elias, and three brothers, Louis, George and Michael Elias. Services were held Friday at St. Stephen's Church. Burial was in Minetto Cemetery.
