Hall of Fame Professional Hockey Player. A native of Chicoutimi, Quebec, he is consideredd one of the great hockey players of all time. At 5'6", and 185 lbs, Vezina played the position of both Right Wing and Goalie for the Montreal Canadiens from 1910 to 1920, 1921 to 1922, and again from 1925 to 1926. It is said but not proven that Vezina had a record number of 22 children with his wife, Maria Stella Morin Vezina, but only two survived to adulthood. The other 20 either were stillborn or miscarriages. Among Vezina's many awards and honors was leading the NHL in Goals Against Average in 1917 and 1918, winning the Stanley Cup n 1916 and 1924, 5 time member of the NHA and NHL Championship teams, having the Vezina Memorial Trophy named for him after his untimely death in 1926, and being elected posthumously as one of the original 12 men to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1945. He passed away in Chicoutimi, Quebec, at the age of 39, after contracting tuberculosis.
