"Captain George West sailed a small schooner called 'The Chief' out of the Indian River Bay and also sailed out of White's Creek. He carried many passengers that lived in the Baltimore Hundred to and from the big city of Philadelphia. Captain George also carried manufactured goods and farm products to market. He owned extensive lands that stretched from West Avenue to the Beach, and a large farm that the boys managed. He was the first president of the newly-created governing body after the town [Ocean View] was created in 1889. He also served in the state legislature."
