A terrible tragedy occurred on Saturday at Edmeston, when Ernest the twelve year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Irving Decker of that village was shot and instantly killed in a hunting accident.
Ernest accompanied a party of relatives who were hunting near the home. The lad had stooped to pick up a rabbit which had been killed, when a pheasant rose. Three of the party fired their guns simultaneously. The lad came to an erect position at the same time and received one of the charges, which passed through his head.
Sincere sympathy is felt for the parents in their deep bereavement.
A verdict of accidental death was given by Dr. B.F. Bishop of Garrattsville, one of the coroners of Otsego County who investigated. Dr. William D. Cappell of Edmeston was called immediately after the accident and after pronouncing the body dead called the coroner.
The hunting party included the boy's father and four uncles Earl Decker of Treadwell, Warren Decker of Edmeston, Scott Colburn of Edmeston and Allen Craig of Gloversville.
