Car Hits Walton, Dies Wednesday
Burtis Walton, 95, Belleville, a pedestrian who was struck at the Post Office corner Tuesday morning by a car driven by Terry K. Davis, 15, Belleville, died early Wednesday morning.
Mr. Walton was rushed by ambulance to the Republic County Hospital where it was learned he suffered no broken bones, but his condition was still causing concern by members of his family later Tuesday.
Mr. Walton was going north and had just stepped from the sidewalk onto 18th street when he was struck by the Davis car. Davis told police that he did not have time to stop after Mr. Walton stepped into the street.
Funeral services will be held Friday, September 27, 2.00 p.m., at the United Methodist church.

Burtis Melvin Walton
Burtis Melvin Walton, son of Isaac and Martha Walton, was born February 8, 1873, near Wayne, Kan., and passed away September 25 at the Republic County hospital, Belleville.
He grew to manhood in the Wayne community and on January 2, 1902, was married to Floy Roszelle.
To this union four sons and two daughters were born. His wife and one son, Clare, preceded him in death.
In June of 1948 he was received by transfer into the membership of the United Methodist church of Belleville.
Survivors are: three sons, Lyle of Lincoln, Byron of Huron, S. D., Bertrand of Saginaw. Mich.; two daughters, Mrs. Doris Sanborn of Belleville, Mrs. Betty Nelson of Lawrence; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Karl C. Schuster and Rev. John Frint at the United Methodist church, September 27. Burial was in Belleville cemetery.
