Armour Man
Killed When
Struck by Car
ARMOUR - Henry Kiel, 68, was killed instantly about 1:30 p.m. Thursday when he was struck by a car one and one-half miles north of Armour on Highway 281.
Mr. Kiel was apparently walking to his mailbox. Driver of the car was Mary Gayle Blume, 19, Armour.
The death broke the record Douglas County had held as being the South Dakota county going the longest time without a traffic fatality.
The accident was investigated by State Patrolman Bernie Hickenbotham and Douglas County Sheriff Stanley Rietfeld.
Funeral services for Mr. Kiel will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Grandview Church in Armour. The body will lie in state Friday night at the Clements Funeral Home. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery at Corsica. The Rev. Henry Jager will officiate.
Mr. Kiel was born Sept. 10, 1901 in Douglas County to Mr. and Mrs. Henry Kiel. On Feb. 8, 1928 he married Maude Rysdam at Corsica.
Survivors include his widow, Maude, and a daughter, Arla, at home.
