During his career he directed more than 50 films including its three major successes: "Les Guerriers" (1967 French-Romanian co-production), "Michael the Brave" (1971) and "Orient Express" (2004).
He also served as Senator for the Romanian Social Democratic Party from 1992 to December 2012.
