WORLD WAR II

1922-2012

Gene left this world, leaving behind a lot of love and loved ones on May 25, 2012 at Ridgecrest Regional Hospital
He was born and raised on Hartford City, Ind., until he enlisted in the Army in 1940 and proudly served his country until 1945.
He then made his California home in Long Beach, where he met and married his first wife, Virginia, of 50 years.
After trying many different jobs, he was hired as a building inspector.
He later worked his way up in the banking profession where he became a certified revenue appraiser and mortgage underwriter.
After many years in banking and the Real Estate Association, becoming the CEO of Savings and Loans and a vice president of other banks and institutions, he retired and moved to Texas.
He then was called out of retirement and came to Ridgecrest to take a job at Monument National Bank as a vice president of real estate officer.
Shortly after he took the job, he lost his wife, but decided to stay on with the bank.
One of the officers at the bank introduced him to Nona Cate of Cate Recycling.
They married in April of 1997.
He retired again on May 31, 1997.
He fell ill in 2003 and his devoted wife Nona gave him home healthcare.
Through Nona's care for him, their love continued to grow until God saw he was tired and took him home on May 25.
He is survived by his step-son Wayne Cate and step-daughters Marla Hemond (John) and Reneé Spicci (Bryon).
He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
