Jackie was born in Kansas City, Kansas to Emil and Rose Lorfing. After graduating from Wyandotte High School she worked in Kansas City as a telephone operator for AT&T and a clerk for North American Aviation.
In March of 1944 she joined the US Army and served as the First Sergeant for a Women's Army Corps Detachment at Camp Roberts, California, where she met and married First Sergeant Harold Duncan, the love of her life.
She was honorably discharged in April of 1945, and moved to Modesto to begin her life as a mother and career as a business office and employment office supervisor at Pacific Telephone & Telegraph Company, a job that lasted more than thirty years.
Jackie was a member of the Telephone Pioneers, Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and Christian Women's Fellowship. She and Harold were also members of First Christian Church and charter members of Maze Boulevard Christian Church.
Jackie was preceded in death by Harold, her brother, Emil (Buzz) Lorfing and her second husband, Jerry Hodges, former Tracy police chief whom she had known since her days in the army at Camp Roberts.
She is survived by her brother, Gerald Lorfing of Kansas City, Kansas; and her children, Janet Weaver of Turlock, Greg Duncan of Castle Rock, Colorado, and Karen Thorsland of Sonora; she also leaves eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 7, at 1:00 pm at Lakewood Memorial Park in Hughson, followed by a military graveside service.
