Ms. Rogers was preceded in her death by her husband, Retired Master Sergeant William H. Rogers.
Ms. Rogers is survived by her brother, Neal Bond, of Orlando, FL; her sister, Rebecca Bond Bates, of Wesley Chapel, FL; her son, Michael Rogers and his wife, Linda, of Huntsville, AL; daughters, Deanne Wheeler and her husband, Skip, of Fallbrook, CA, and Kathryn Lorenson and her husband, Doug, of Oro Valley, AZ; grandchildren, William Rogers and his wife, Jennifer, of Woodbridge, VA, Mark Rogers, of Huntsville, AL, Stephanie Wheeler, of Fallbrook, CA, Allison Slattery and her husband, Jim, of Vista, CA, Steven Wheeler, of Vista, CA, Matthew Lorenson, of Oro Valley, AZ, Megan Lorenson, of Oro Valley, AZ, and Mandy Lorenson, of Oro Valley, AZ; and great-grandchildren, Sloan Rogers, of Woodbridge, VA, Seth Rogers, of Woodbridge, VA, and William Slattery, of Vista, CA.
She was born in Madison County, Georgia and grew up on her parents' working farm with nine brothers and sisters. During World War II, she worked for the Department of Commerce in Silver Springs, Maryland.
She and her husband were married on July 12, 1944 before he went to Europe with the Seventh Army. They lived in the Panama Canal Zone where son, Michael and daughter, Deanne were born, Fort Bliss, Texas, Chiba City, Japan, Okinawa, Fort Huachuca, Arizona where daughter, Kathryn was born, Yuma Test Station, Arizona, Yuma, Arizona, Sierra Vista, Arizona, Tucson, Arizona, and most recently in Oro Valley, Arizona.
As a lifelong Methodist, she was active and a dedicated volunteer in the churches that she was a member. They included Jones Chapel, Madison County, Georgia where she grew up, Trinity United Methodist Church, Yuma, Arizona where her daughter, Deanne and her husband, Skip were one of the first couples to be married in the church's new sanctuary, Sierra Vista United Methodist Church, Sierra Vista, Arizona where she and her husband were charter members and where son, Michael and Linda were the first couple married after the church was formed and chartered, and Christ Church United Methodist, Tucson, Arizona.
Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 5, 2013, at the Chapel in EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY, Tucson, Arizona. Her life will be celebrated by Reverend Fred Baum at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel. Burial will follow in the cemetery. A reception to celebrate Ms. Rogers' life will be held after her burial at her daughter's home in Oro Valley, Arizona.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory for the local community outreach programs at Christ Church United Methodist, 655 N. Craycroft Road, Tucson, Arizona 85711.
