Mrs. Juanita Mae Jenkins, 91, of Winston-Salem, passed away Monday, June 5, 2017 after a year of declining health.

Juanita was born in Sperryville, Virginia on February 6, 1926 to Jesse Lee Jenkins, Sr. and Leurie Dodson Jenkins. She graduated as valedictorian from Sperryville High School, where she was a member of the 1944 State Championship Basketball team. After high school, she attended business school in Richmond, VA and Forsyth Tech in Winston-Salem. Juanita worked as an accountant for American Viscose Corporation from 1945 until 1970 and also worked for Forsyth County Health Department from 1984 to 1988. A longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church, Juanita served as Secretary of Feasibility Study Committee there to determine the need for a high school at the existing Day School. She was also the first Secretary of the Calvary Day School at Center Grove from 1996 to 2000. She was preceded in death by her first husband, James W. Maloney, whom she married in 1947 and second husband, Joseph T. Jenkins, whom she married in 1980.

Juanita is survived by her son, Tim Maloney and wife Bobbie; grandchildren, Kelley Maloney and Jess Maloney; the mother of her grandchildren, Shannon Maloney; sister, Jinx Marrow and husband Addison; and her stepfamily – daughters, Deloris Lay and husband Dick and Teresa Bowers and husband Gary; 2 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandson; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Juanita’s life will be held Sunday, June 11, 2017 at 1:30 pm in the Angell Room of Calvary Baptist Church. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service.
