Virginia Violet Middleton Steffes, formerly of Dickinson, was released from earth's pull and fluttered painlessly to Heaven on December 29, 2012.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 AM at Church of St. Mary in Bismarck with The Rev. Msgr. Gene Lindemann officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Dickinson.

Visitation will be Monday from 3:00 – 6:00 PM at Eastgate Funeral Service where a vigil service will begin at 5:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the church.

Virginia consented to the laws of gravity for 95 years and 5 months. She did so with love, courage, dignity, humor, and just plain grit.

Virginia remained the quintessential Mom to her last days and will be profoundly missed by her six living children and their families: Virginia Becker, Yvonne Mahoney, Marie Quam, Dan (Lila) Steffes, Lois Ternes, and Tom (Cindy) Steffes. She also leaves behind fifteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Howard; two grandsons, Shawn and Matthew McGauley; one granddaughter, Tracy Steffes; and recently, her cherished son, David (Brandi) Steffes.

She was also preceded in death by her siblings: Sylvia, Bud, Gladys, Sherman, Bill, Lillian, and Marjory.

While Mother has defeated the relentless grip of the earth, her tender love remains tethered to those she left behind. We are comforted to know that to reach her henceforth, we need only look to the heavens, tug on that tether of love, and she will be there…like always.
