Mary Ellen (Voorhees) Wessel was born on September 30, 1926 in Raritan, Illinois, the daughter Gilbert H Voorhees (1877-1939) and Ola (Mesecher) Voorhees (1895-1981).
She was married about 1949 to Lieutenant Colonel Melvin Wessel ( -2012) and followed him during his 22 years of military service, moving 19 times. She made friends wherever she was. Mary and Melvin had no children but were loved and made longtime friendships with many veterans and colleagues. She was a very active member and had many friends at Crystal Cathedral and Circle of Friends; however her health had prevented her from attending as often as she wished.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and by her brother Lyle Voorhees.
A Memorial Service to Celebrate Her Life was held at Emeritus Assisted Living on North Dale Avenue in Anaheim, and burial was in Crystal Cathedral Memorial Gardens.
